Brady & Hamilton’s greatest asset is its people, and we’d love to help you get to know them. For this attorney spotlight, we caught up with one of the firm’s newest attorneys, Jacie Birkenfeld.
What do you think is the most challenging thing about practicing law?
I think the most challenging thing about practicing law is trying to predict the future in a way. Whether it’s helping clients form an estate plan, drafting business formation documents, or anticipating opposing counsel’s arguments, attorneys must account for a number of unknowns and try to plan accordingly. As a new attorney this challenge is especially apparent, so I feel blessed to have the opportunity to learn from and grow in my career alongside the attorneys at Brady & Hamilton, LLP.
What led you to practice in your expertise?
I decided to practice in agricultural and transactional law in part because of my agricultural background, and because I believed practicing law was the best way I could use my God-given talents to serve members of the agricultural community. I find it very fulfilling to help people manage, grow, and transition their businesses and ag operations.
Away from work, how do you like to spend your time?
Outside the office I enjoy spending time with my husband, Lane and completing different homestead improvement projects. We are currently constructing a number of fences, horse pens, and a patio space on our property. (I think Chip and Johanna could learn something from us.) I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, usually involving a horse show or Red Raider sporting event, baking, and have begun trying to cultivate a green thumb for the umpteenth time.
What’s your favorite restaurant, and why?
My favorite restaurant is Lubbock Breakfast House, specifically the one on University and the Loop. It is my favorite because I have so many great memories there beginning from when I first moved to Lubbock as a college freshman to the present day. It was one of the first places a Lubbock native roommate took me after move-in, where I’ve taken family and friends who have visited over the years, and is now a familiar favorite since making this part of the world home. Also, who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner every now and then?
What’s your favorite movie to watch over and over again?
My favorite movie to watch over and over again is Mcklintock!, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. My brother and I grew up watching John Wayne films and I think my parents still have this one on VHS somewhere. It’s one of those movies that I can remember watching with my dad in his recliner, and every time it comes available on a streaming platform I feel obliged to watch it and laugh along like it’s the first time.
