What is the ERCOT Expansion Plan?
ERCOT proposed two statewide transmission buildout project options to meet its projected 2030 load growth. The multi-billion dollar Regional Transmission Plan will provide more energy across the state.
Option 1 offered a 345-kV plan of 3,007 miles, an existing line upgrade of 4,274 miles, and an estimated construction cost of $32.55 billion.
However, Option 2 was chosen as the preferred method.
Option 2 will be a 765-kV plan with the approved Permian Basin Reliability Plan to include 2,468 miles of new 765-kV lines, 649 miles of new 345-kV lines, 1,098 miles of existing 345-kV upgrades, 324 miles of new 138-kV lines, 1,287 miles of existing 138-kV upgrades, 446 miles of existing 69-to-138-kV conversions and an estimated construction cost of $33.90 billion.

Brady & Hamilton attorney Zach Brady spoke on the topic “Here We Go Again: The Next Texas Electric Transmission Build-out” at this year’s Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Convention and Expo as well as Texas Wildlife Associations Wildlife 2025 Convention and Expo. Brady was able to provide some clarity and most recent updates to many Texas landowners who are being affected by this statewide project.
An article was also written in the Fort Worth Star Telegram regarding Brady’s talk.
